About sundayspecial
Founded in 2021, sundayspecial is a 4-Piece uprising Alternative/Synth-pop band hailing from Southern Manila, known for expressing their passion through powerful, melodic & lyrically honest music. A "Tito Pop" kind of music that caters nostalgic vibes for younger generations.

Humble Beginnings
In late 2019, a musical journey was set in motion when Dedek Mongalo and Hen Luce, both members of the band WeeFee, began working on a side project. This side project was likely an outlet for their creativity and musical expression outside of their main band.
In 2020, the COVID-19 pandemic significantly affected the world, including the music industry. Live performances, touring, and other traditional music-related activities were put on hold due to lockdowns and safety concerns. Despite these challenges, Dedek and Hen didn't let the pandemic stop them from making music. They persevered and continued to work on their project.
In January 2021, Dedek Mongalo expanded their musical venture by recruiting former bandmates Sherwin Capanzana (Manila Under Fire) and Marvin Tad-y (Aspen Way). Together, they officially formed the band sundayspecial. This move likely brought new perspectives, talents, and experiences to their project.
sundayspecial is described as a band that creates powerful, overdriven, melodic, and lyrically honest music. This suggests that their music is emotionally charged and expressive, perhaps reflecting the challenges and experiences they faced in their younger years before the pandemic.
Despite the pandemic's limitations, sundayspecial continued to express their passion for music. They may have used this time to refine their sound and strengthen their commitment to their artistic vision.

Despite the pandemic's challenges, the original lineup of sundayspecial managed to release two singles, "Magkabilang Mundo (2021)" and "Tanggap (2022)." This demonstrates their commitment to their music and their desire to connect with their audience even when live performances were limited.
The band found ways to adapt to the pandemic's restrictions. They made livestream videos during lockdowns and resumed gigging when lockdown regulations eased. This adaptability and persistence allowed them to continue sharing their music and staying connected with their fans.
In July 2022, sundayspecial celebrated their first-year anniversary. This milestone likely marked a significant moment in their journey, highlighting their resilience and dedication as a band during a period of uncertainty and challenges.
To mark their first-year anniversary, sundayspecial launched their third single, "'Di Bale Nalang", a song that played a pivotal role in shaping the band's signature sound. This new release showcased their continued creative output and their ability to stay focused on their music goals.
The band had the opportunity to perform with prominent artists in the Philippines, such as "This Band," "Anyo," "PAR," and "647." Collaborations like these can help them gain exposure and connect with a broader audience.
The journey took a bittersweet turn as Hen Luce performed his last show with the band, choosing to focus on his life as a dad. This marks a significant transition for the band, and they'll likely undergo changes in their lineup and dynamics moving forward.
Trio

Despite the departure of Hen, the remaining members of sundayspecial pressed on, embracing their "new sound" as a trio. Their single "'Di Bale Nalang" acted as a catalyst, propelling them into the limelight with a larger audience, more exposure, and participation in bigger events. They gained recognition as "the trio with a big sound."
Their journey reached new heights when they made their first online appearance as the pilot episode for "IndieKa: Tunog," an online platform showcasing premier bands in the metro. Here, they rubbed shoulders with some of the best artists in the industry, such as Mayonnaise, ena mori, This Band, chndtr, Talata, Alisson Shore, and many more.
In September 2022, sundayspecial unveiled their fourth single, a 2022 Remastered Version of "Magkabilang Mundo," complete with a music video that highlighted their unwavering commitment to their passion and their gratitude towards their loyal supporters.

The trio embraced opportunities to perform at significant events, including mall shows, concerts, and school festivals. They even had the privilege of being the opening act for "This Band." As they continued to share their music with a wider audience, they also worked diligently to promote their songs.
The year 2023 kicked off with a bang for sundayspecial. In February, they launched the music video for "'Di Bale Nalang," which showcased their love for making music while navigating their everyday lives and jobs, traveling across the country. The video also emphasized the band's deep appreciation for their friends and family who had supported them from day one.
Followed by the release of their fifth single, "Malilimutan Rin Kita," reaffirming their status as "the trio with a big sound." sundayspecial was on an upward trajectory, and their music was reaching a larger audience.
"Tito Pop Era"

The band's journey took an unexpected turn as they expanded their lineup by adding Nelson "Momo" Limbo Jr. as their acoustic guitar player. They continued to search for the perfect sound with Momo while tirelessly writing more songs and setting their sights on releasing an album.
Their passion for music led them to their first main show outside Metro Manila, where they discovered the potential of their new sound to reach a larger audience.
sundayspecial kept grinding, playing gigs, and forging friendships within the independent music scene. Their dedication was unwavering.
In August 2023, the band officially welcomed Momo as a full-fledged member, and they embraced a new musical direction, with Momo taking up the electric guitar. Their performance at the Philippine Star's Truth Festival at Quezon Memorial Circle marked a milestone as it showcased their biggest performance yet, and they coined their music as "Tito Pop," invoking nostalgic vibes for younger generations.

Throughout their journey, sundayspecial remained grateful to their loyal supporters and those who believed in their music. They continued to express their passion through powerful, melodic, and lyrically honest music, promising to keep creating and inspiring others in their musical endeavors.
